In the past few months, I have been trying a few nail polishes that are all either 100% organic or natural or at least somehow wannabe natural (up to 90%). I will go into more detail about these descriptions below. I have some very clear cut favorites and a few that I just did not like at all. So here we go with my honest review of nail polishes from Sante, Logona, Provida, ZAO, and Benecos.
Alcohol denat.*, Shellac, Aqua (Water), Ethyl Lactate, Talc, Silica, Glycerin, Mica, Maltodextrin, Tin Oxide, [+/- CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 75470 (Carmine)(Contains carmine as a color additive), CI 77491 (Iron Oxides), CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 77492 (Iron Oxides), CI 77007 (Ultramarines)

This one is my no. 2!
Now, whereas Logona claims to have created the first ever NATURAL nail polish, Provida says they made the world’s first colored ORGANIC nail polish. In the end, I do not know who is right or who is wrong, but I know I LOVE the Provida nail colors! The colored organic nail polishes consist exclusively of their patented organic nail polish and purest mineral powders – nothing else!
The nail color does not smell bad at all which proves that no chemicals are added. But, most importantly to me; you only need ONE coat to have a really perfect finish. Like, I was so used to add three coats of nail polish every time, I apply some. But here you really only need one coat. I love it!
However, the nail polish is somehow different in consistency (it is somehow thick on the nails) and you will have to add some top coat if you want to have a shimmering finish. But since you only have to apply one coat anyway, you will not mind adding some top coat.
All: Alcohol**, Shellac, Styrax benzoin gum, Copernica cerifera cera*, Ricinus communis seed oil*, Lavandula angustifolia oil**, Cymbopogon nardus oil**, (Benzyl benzoate, Linalool, Benzyl cinnamate, Limonene, Benzyl alcohol), CI77891, CI77491, CI77492, CI77499
This one is my favorite!
So here we begin with the less favorites of mine… well, I like Sante overall. They make some nice natural and organic cosmetics and the nail polish is not like super bad. However, there are some ingredients in there that are made from mineral oils and there are a few chemical colors in there too. This still is SO much better than any conventional nail polish which is highly carcinogenic (promotes cancer).
The nail polish has a nice opactiy but I am personally not a huge fan of the small brush which makes it difficult to apply. It is okay long lasting (around 4 days) and the colors really are beautiful. Anyway, not my fav.
Butyl Acetate, Ethyl Acetate, Nitrocellulose, Phthalic Anhydride/ Trimellitic Anhydride/ Glycols Copolymer, Acetyl Tributyl Citrate, Isopropyl Alcohol, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Adipic Acid/ Fumaric Acid/ Phthalic Acid/ Tricyclodecane/ Dimethanol Copolymer, Dimethicone, Phosphoric Acid, Citric Acid, Sucrose Benzoate, Styrene/ Acrylates Copolymer, Talc, Mica, Tin Oxide, [+/- CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 77491 (Iron Oxides), CI 77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride), CI 47005 (Yellow 10), CI 15880 (Red 34), CI 15850 (Red 6), CI 12085 (Red 36)] *from controlled organic cultivation

So ZAO has, unfortunatly, been my biggest disapointment. ZAO is a brand that is vegan, gluten-free, cruelty free and uses biodegradable reusable packaging. Furthermore it is certified by Ecocert, CosmoBio, Cruelty free international and campaign for safe cosmetics. So of course I thought that I would love their products. Plasticfree and everthing!
Anyway, the nail polish is not organic and not 100% natural. It is 90% odour free but there are few critical ingredients in there. That would have been okay, if at least it would have worked well. But it did not. Not for me at least.
I had to apply four coats to have a somhow good finish and nevertheless, the color lasted for only three days. I definetly love the packaging and for the packaging only, this would be my no. 1. But for the rest, this one if my personal biggest disapointment.

I am using Benecos nail polishes in years already. I like them because they are super easy to apply (big brush) and because they last really really long. Like longer than any of the other nail polishes I reviewed here. I would say for around 5-7 days, depending on what you do. I apply two coats for a nice finish. Done.
Nevertheless, there are some ingredients based on mineral oils and some othes that could potentially be carcinogen.
However, compared to the other wannabe natural nail polishes, the ones from Benecos are actually pretty cheap (around 4€) compared to the other ones with similar ingredients (around 10€). I totally agree to spend more money on higher quality products but I totally do not see why I should spend more money on a product that actually I could get in the same quality (but with a better brush 😀 ) for a lower price.

What is your favorite natural nail polish by the way? I would love to know!
I know there are like so many other great brands out there, but then I also felt like I do not want to have like 20 or more different nail polishes from different brands in the house, because in the end, I cannot use them all anyway. So for this post here, it is five brands. But who knows, maybe I will make another post sometime in the future and sharing some other natural (and hopefully organic) nail polishes with you 🙂
By the way, in case you have not yet entered my giveaway, make sure to do so! Check out the end of the last post for more info. You can win this really cool stainless steel teamug to go that is worth 39,90€.
