Five Easy Ways to get More Kale into Your Life!

We all know kale is super healthy right? But how to get more kale into your life? I have five easy tips for you. And a short reminder with all the important info about why you NEED kale in your life 😀

Kale is actually one of the most nutrient dense foods on earth. It has plents vitamin A, C, K, B6, plus iron, magnesium, calcium, potassium … almost everything you need. Kale is also very high in antioxidants, which makes it a real superfood when it comes to fight free radicals in your system. There are of course also millions on phytonutrients in kale, and so much more that isn’t even discovered yet. The bottom line is that you can get almost everything you need from just kale and it will most definetly help your system stay healthy and your body to be in it’s best form.

This is why I personally try to eat some kale every day during the colder months of the year. When it is getting warmer, I also like to eat loads of baby spinach, different lettuces, and wild herbs. But in Winter, kale is my no. 1 green. That is not only because it is so healthy but also because it is available from local farmers all throughout winter.

So here are five easy ways to get more kale into your life!

1. Juice it

This is actually my favorite way to get loads of kale into my body. I have a fresh orange-ginger juice every morning anyway and it does not even take a minute to get some three to five extra leaves of kale into my life, by just adding them to my juicer.

My favorite combination is 4 oranges, a 2cm piece of fresh ginger, and 3-5 leaves of kale (depending on the size of the leaves).

This way is also great for those of you who maybe to not enjoy the taste of kale as much!

On a side note: glass straws! How amazing are glass straws? Giving the fact that THREE BILLION plastic straws are used EVERY DAY world wide, I truely believe that investing in some glass straws is absolutely necessary (if you like to use straws). The Berlin based Start Up HALM  started a great initiave to reduce the use of plastic straws; in privat houses and in restaurants. You can order glass straws on their website, or, if you are a restaurant, they will help you change your business to plastic straw free! Make sure to check them out

2. Smooth it

Equally easy: add kale to your smoothies! Blend up three bananas with some blueberries, water or coconut water, and a few leaves of kale. I personally prefer greens with “less taste” in my green smoothies, but if you like strong smoothies and you enjoy the taste of kale, then go ahead and add a little to your smoothie! You can also start with one of leaf with three bananas (you will not taste it, I promise) and then slightly get in more and more with every smoothie you make.

Make sure to use a high speed blender when making smoothies with kale, as the leaves have loads of fiber. They will be all over and in between your teeth if you do not blend it carefully enough.

3. Make kale salad

Kale salads are actually much more delicious than you maybe think! The secrect is to add a little bit of something sweet to it. I like to eat fresh kale with pomegranate seeds and a dressing of apple cider vinegar and maple syrup. But you can also add pear, apple, orange, or even pineapple to your kale salad. If you like it creamy, make a tahin based dressing by just mixing up some tahin with maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, some salt and pepper.

Whatever dressing you make, always make sure to massage the dressing carefully into every single piece of kale. The kale will be soft within minutes of getting in touch with the dressig, however, it stays hard and a little difficult to eat without dressing.

On a side note: the pretty bowl is from tranquillo-shop.de (a christmas gif for myself)

4. Add kale into EVERYTHING you cook

This is another one for those of you who do not really enjoy the taste of kale. When you cut it into really small pieces you can add it to basically everything you make, without actually tasting it. I like to add it to my chilis, my currys, my tomato sauce, even my stews and gratins. When just chopping two leaves or so into small pieces every day and adding it to whatever you cook, you already get a ton of extra vitamin k and minerals without really noticiting it. Pretty cool or not?

5. Use beauty products containing kale

If you really do not like to eat kale or if you want to add even MORE kale into your life, how about using beauty products containing kale? Nourish London developped a cleanser containing kale. In this product, the kale detoxifies and protects against pollution, helping to minimise signs of ageing. Fun fact: when using the product the color changes to light green.

Now, I hope to enjoyed this little kale post and I would love to know your favorite way to get more kale into your life! Are you more a smoothie or juice person? Or do you prefer eating kale in salads or cooked?

I really like kale, my parents grow a lot of it during Summer, so we eat it as much as we can:) Now I buy kale at shop and I like to use it in salads or stews. I hardly ever juice any greens, I prefer to eat them whole. I juice carrots and celery most of the time, sometimes I add apple or a beetroot. Now I have a liitlle time off from work, cos it;s winter break and I have some time to cook healthy dishes and I finally have some time for myself:) Have a lovely week, hugs:)))

Kale is sooooo delicious! I don’t eat it often enough, but I really should after reading your great post! Eating kale with mashed potatoes is actually one of the Dutch signature meals. I would love to juice it, but I need to save some money first to buy a juicer! Hihi. How awesome are these glass straws as wel!? I had no idea that they existed, but so much better for the environment! I’m adding them to my wishlist too.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend sweetheart! <3
